John Dzenitis has a background in chemical and mechanical engineering including a PhD from MIT. He has worked in a variety of technical and management positions at NASA, Monsanto, Pharmacia, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Bio-Rad, and most recently 10x Genomics. He had always been what is now called a “maker”, but was introduced to fine-ish woodworking in 1991 by his future wife Beth (also an engineer and woodworker) building a trestle table from a Norm Abram book. John and Beth have a business Dzenitis Art And Engineering LLC (www.dzenitisartandengineering.com) making both speculative and commissioned furniture out of wood, metal, and concrete.

Although John bought a Nikon camera with money from a paper-route when he was a kid, he is not a serious photographer, but learned enough to get by to take pictures for their company’s website. He still has quite a way to go, though. In this “shop tour”, John will show the setup and processes he uses to get decent photos of furniture and some of the digital post-processing he does to improve them. You won’t have to take a ton of detailed notes, because after the session, John will send out a notes document with major points and tips, some equipment, and key references that he has learned the most from.
