What is this?
I was born in a log cabin I built myself. No wait, that was Lincoln. We were classmates. I learned woodworking with my dad's dull tools in a dark basement workshop. I took a shop class in high school. Built my dad a desktop calendar and pen holder. I think he tossed it soon after he inspected my workmanship. As a young married man I built the first of three or four darkrooms for my photography obsession. Later in life I worked as an apprentice lineman and learned to make big things, like setting power poles by hand, climbing poles and towers and doing heavy pole top construction. After photography school I worked for a bit more than a year as a carpenter and cabinet maker for the city of Concord. Eventually I built several kitchens, and a house full of furniture, among many other woodworking related projects. As an older adult I taught antique tool restoration and use, as well as woodworking through Mt. Diablo Adult Ed in Pleasant Hill. I've organized many different wood shop groups, but lately have concentrated my efforts on building picture frames for myself and friends. I worked eight years as an audio visual producer and photojournalist, then thirty years as a classroom teacher.
I welcome visitors to see the tools I've collected for use, as well as the kitchen I built, and a house full of furniture and photographs crowding my walls.
