John Dzenitis has a background in chemical and mechanical engineering including a PhD from MIT. He has worked in a variety of technical and management positions at NASA, Monsanto, Pharmacia, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Bio-Rad, and most recently 10x Genomics. He had always been what is now called a “maker”, but was introduced to fine woodworking in 1991 by his future wife Beth (also an engineer and woodworker) building a trestle table from a Norm Abram book. John and Beth have a business Dzenitis Art And Engineering LLC (www.dzenitisartandengineering.com, www.instagram.com/dzenitisart/) making both speculative and commissioned furniture out of wood, metal, and concrete. In this Zoom meeting, John will talk about the kumiko-inspired Liese Wine Cabinet (https://www.dzenitisartandengineering.com/portfolio/cabinets/liese-wine-cabinet), including both the design and how he makes it in their modest shop.
